Ceiling battens made simple
For a truly flat ceiling, you can’t go past a Barracuda ceiling batten.
Barracuda’s ceiling battens
Barracuda ceiling battens offer a wide range of benefits over standard timber battens. For example, they’re lighter than timber battens, making them easy to handle on site. Plus, they can be made to any length you need. They also don’t hold water, so you don’t have to wait for them to dry before applying plasterboard, and of course, being NZ made steel, they’re not going to warp or twist. In short, they’ll save you plenty of time on site, and provide you with a perfectly flat ceiling. What more could you ask for?

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The best time to install is when the roof is on and the building is wrapped or enclosed although to save some time, you can take the measurements as soon as all of the framing is installed.
-
The roof needs to be on otherwise the battens will fill up with water and, unless drained, could leak onto the plasterboard when it is installed.
The floors must be cleared as much as possible to allow for access (to make the install as easy as possible, we recommend a small rolling scaffold).
For high ceilings and long drop areas such as stairwells, a safe and secure scaffold is a must.
-
Every build is different and timing will be affected by your level of skill and the tools you have on hand. For a flat ceiling and a competent installer, you can expect the following:
Direct Fix—up to 125m2 per day
Clipped—80-100m2 per day
Suspended—60m2 per day -
Both the 20mm & 35mm battens can span up to 1200mm between clips. We would however recommend installing clips at centres of 900-1000mm. Please refer to the Span Table in our Technical Downloads section.
-
Earthing is an electrical safety requirement and involves connecting the battens to the ground. Although most battens are connected by wafering the ends to the perimeter channel/angle, earthing needs to be done by your electrician when he earths the house.
